Pneumonia Treatment in Homeopathy

Information about pneumonia symptoms, causes, diagnosis, pneumonia treatment with homeopathy medicine or homeopathic treatment for pneumonia.

Pneumonia is an inflammation of the lung characterized by the same type of vascular changes and exudation of fluid and cells as that of inflammation in any other location. However, the inflammatory process is influenced by the spongy character of lungs. The inflammatory exudate spreads unimpeded through the lung, filling the alveoli, and the affected portion of lung becomes relatively solid. The inflammatory exudates may reach the pleural surface in some areas, causing irritation and inflammation of the pleura; sometimes inflammatory exudates accumulate sin the pleural space.

Bronchopneumonia – bronchopneumonia is the form of pneumonia that affects patches of the bronchioles throughout both lungs. This form of pneumonia id a danger to the elderly people, the very young, and the chronically ill.

Lobar pneumonia – affects one or more sections, or lobes, of a lung. Double pneumonia is lobar pneumonia involving both lungs, and is usually form of bacterial pneumonia.

Causes of pneumonia

Bacteria, virus, fungus, and other nosocomial organisms act as a primary cause of pneumonia. After infection causative organisms settles and multiply in alveoli, as a response WBC’S 9white blood cells) fight with infection, which causes pus formation filed in alveolar sacs causing pneumonia.

Sign and symptoms of pneumonia

The main symptoms of pneumonia are coughing, sputum production, pleuritic chest pain, shaking chills, shortness of breath, rapid shallow breathing, and fever.

physical signs are widely, ranging from diffuse, fine crackles to signs of localized or extensive consolidation and pleural effusion.

There may also be associated symptoms of headache, sweating, loss of appetite, excess fatigue, and confusion.

Diagnosis of pneumonia

Clinical features, chest X-ray showing infiltrates, and sputum smear demonstrating acute inflammatory cells support the diagnosis.

Gram stain and sputum culture may identify the organism. Positive blood culture may identify the organism. Positive blood cultures in the patient with pneumonia produced by the organisms isolated from the blood cultures.

Pleural effusions, if present, should be tapped and fluid analyzed for evidence of infection in the pleural space.

Occasionally, a transtracheal aspirate of tracheobraonchial secretions or bronchoscopy with brushing or washing may be done to obtain material from smear and culture.

Complications of pneumonia

Complications with pneumonia include empyma, lung abscess, pneumatocele, respiratory failure, sepsis, and metastatic infection.

Homeopathic treatment for pneumonia

Homeopathy is one of the most popular holistic systems of medicine. The selection of remedy is based upon the theory of individualization and symptoms similarity by using holistic approach. This is the only way through which a state of complete health can be regained by removing all the sign and symptoms from which the patient is suffering. The aim of homeopathy is not only to treat pneumonia but to address its underlying cause and individual susceptibility. As far as therapeutic medication is concerned, several remedies are available to treat pneumonia that can be selected on the basis of cause, sensations and modalities of the complaints.  For individualized remedy selection and treatment, the patient should consult a qualified homeopathic doctor in person. There are following remedies which are helpful in the treatment of pneumonia:

Aconite – acts well in first stage of pneumonia, because it corresponds more closely to the symptoms usually found in that stage. It should not, however, be used in this any disease unless symptoms call it.

High fever preceded by a distinct chill; the pulse is full, hard and tense; a history of exposure may also be taken into consideration; dry cold winds.

The skin is hot and dry, without moisture upon it; there is a dry, hard, teasing and painful cough.

Bryonia – pleura-pneumonia, true croupous pneumonia, when hepatization or staege of exudation has set in; heavy pressure over sternum; bruised feeling and shooting pains in chest; pains more bearable when lying on affected side; cough hard and painful, but expectoration viscid, tenacious, of a brick dust color.

Ferrum Phos – great remedy for first stage of pneumonia before exudation takes place; it is useful for violent congestions of the lungs, whether appearing at the onset of the disease or during the course, which would show that the inflammatory action was extending; it is thus corresponds to what are termed secondary pneumonias, especially in the aged and debilitated.

There is high fever, oppressed and hurried breathing, and bloody expectoration, very little thirst.

Rhus Tox – typhoid pneumonia, often from respiration of pus, with tearing cough and restlessness, as rest aggravates the pain and dyspnoea.

Kali Carb – great remedy for pneumonia, mucus in the chest, raised with difficulty; breathing wheezing, whistling, oppressed, so that child can neither sleep nor drink. Later stages of pneumonia with copious exudation in lungs and great rattling of mucus during cough.

Lycopodium – is also a most useful remedy in delayed or partial resolution. There is a tightness across the chest, aching over lungs, general weakness.

Kali Mur – it is given simply because there is a fibrinous exudation in the lung substance. There is a white, viscid expectoration and the tongue is coated white. It is better suited to second stage.

Sulphur – is a remedy to be used in any stage of pneumonia. When the case has a typhoid tendency and the lung tends to break down, where there are rales, muco-purulent expectoration, slow speech, dry tongue and symptoms of hectic, sulphur is the remedy.

Lachesis – Last stage of pneumonia, when it assumes a typhoid form, especially when an abscess forms in the lungs; sputa frothy mixed with blood, purulent, profuse sweat.

Kali Sulph – pneumonia with wheezing and expectoration of yellow, loose, rattling phlegm or watery mucus; suffocative feeling in hot atmosphere.
